Be careful when using XP SP2, you will have to create an exception in the firewall, or even disable the firewall all together.

MaxGen...

Update: I have updated the document to include Seanok's recommended piece on disabling "Simple File Sharing" mode. Thanks Seanok. Now at version 1.1

Thanks MaxGen

With your comprehensive guide I was able to mount CIFS with no problems. I was struggling with NFS before to get DB to access files on the PC. I was searching all around the forums with no luck, and then I came across this thread.

Just a suggestion for the next version of your guide. For those who may want to record from the DB on to the hard disk of the PC, it is necessary to choose read and write (rw) in the options field, when setting up CIFS on the DB. I had this field blank initially (as in the guide) and so could not record.

Thanks again for the good work.

Very good instructions. But the 'Sharing a folder' instructions do not apply to Windows XP Home. For XP Home users you could add the instruction "For Windows XP Home, right click on the folder, select 'sharing and security', then select 'share this folder on the network' and 'allow network users to change my files'. Then select 'Apply' and then 'OK'. Please be careful what you share, as this will now be available to the whole internet."

Regards, pcd.

Using CIFS, I tried to mount a PC HDD on the DreamBox with variable results. The Telnet solution is working. The enigma's Mount Manager fails (SDT DaVinci Tertia).

The Telnet solution:
Quote:
~ > mount -t cifs -o rw,user=dream,pass=dream //192.168.1.254/dreambox /var/mnt/pc/

~ > mount
//192.168.1.254/DreamBox on /var/mnt/pc type cifs <rw,nodiratime,unc=\192.168.1.254\dreambox,usernam e=dream, domain=,rsize=-256,wsize=-256>
~ >
The PC's shared folder is visible in File Mode.

The enigma's Mount Manager solution:
Quote:
IP: 192.168.1.254 CIFS
Dir: dreambox
LocalDir: /var/mnt/pc/
Options: rw,nolock
Extra: nolock,rsize=8192,wsize=8192
User: dream
Pass: dream
Automount: checked
The result is a message that the mount failed.

Any ideas would be welcome.

By the way, the mount procedure that fails with the enigma's GUI is registered as "//bla" mount (it can be unmounted again). What is a "//bla" mount ??

Any views ??

Yes with Gemini image. Press the video button and then the radio button (for 5620, may be the same for yours). To stop and timer menu press radio button again. Regards, pcd.

with the 500 you need to edit the remote xml file as there is no video button on the 500 remote. do a search around here for the info it's all here.
